TIFF Red Carpet: Julia Roberts and her August: Osage County co-stars elicit the loudest screams of the festival

TIFF Red Carpet: August: Osage County

Even without Meryl Streep (who called in sick at the last minute) the stacked cast of August: Osage County drew the biggest and loudest crowd of any TIFF red carpet this year. Julia Roberts, still every bit the Pretty Woman in a scarlet Dolce & Gabbana mini dress, signed autographs and flashed her famous grin for the crush of fans outside of Roy Thomson Hall last night. Robert’s My Best Friend’s Wedding co-star Dermot Mulroney joined her on the red carpet, becoming the third leading man to show up to TIFF with lengthy locks. Further upping the star wattage: Juliette Lewis, Ewan McGregor, Jennifer Morrison, Chris Cooper and Little Miss Sunshine’s Abigail Breslin, who has morphed into a 17-year-old platinum blonde bombshell. Lewis took every opportunity to praise writer-director Tracy Letts’ darkly comic screenplay while Cooper heaped his praise on Streep’s already much-heralded abilities, calling the three-time Oscar winner  “astounding—a real talent.” Stop the presses!
