The Place Beyond the Pines, a crime drama starring Ryan Gosling, his lady love Eva Mendes and their well-documented white-hot chemistry, just scored a distribution deal. Focus Features walked away with the U.S. distribution rights, although a number of big-name companies (like The Weinstein Co.) were interested in the film as well. Insiders told the Hollywood Reporter the arrangement cost roughly $2.5 million. Director Derek Cianfrance worked with the Goz in the successful (and super heart-breaking) Blue Valentine, so it’s no surprise The Place Beyond the Pines got snapped up so quickly after premiering Friday (the two were seen hugging on the red carpet). In the thriller, Gosling plays a bleach-blond, motorcycle-riding, bank-robbing loner trying to support his girlfriend (Mendes) and their son. Bradley Cooper stars as a rookie cop, hot on Gosling’s tail. Which is...hot. [The Hollywood Reporter]
