Quoted: Hugh Jackman gets sentimental about the Oscars, his dad and Sophia Loren

My father was an accountant for Price Waterhouse—do you remember the Oscars, they used to bring out the three accountants? We used to stand up on our couch and cheer when the accountants came out with their briefcases. That was a big moment for us. And I remember saying to my dad, ‘One day, Dad, you’re going to be there.’

–Former Oscar host Hugh Jackman, who’s been seen palling around town with Prisoners co-star and new bestie Jake Gyllenhaal, on how he never expected to end up on stage at the Academy Awards. The actor went on to explain that when he finally did get to host, his attempt at a shout-out to his father went unnoticed: “I look[ed] at my dad, but he wasn’t paying attention at all because Sophia Loren was sitting next to him.”
