TIFF Red Carpet: Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal bro-down at the Prisoners premiere

The scruffy hunks shared some giddy broments at last night’s red carpet for gritty police procedural Prisoners, showing up just in time to pal around for paps before being whisked into the Elgin Theatre for the gala premiere. Director Denis Villeneuve, whose psychodrama Enemy premieres on Sunday, stopped to gush with reporters about his all-star cast, including a dapper-looking Terrence Howard (who seemed not to be dwelling on recent legal woes), and royal blue–clad actresses Maria Bello and Melissa Leo. Meanwhile, a cane-carrying Paul Dano hobbled through the lobby with girlfriend and Ruby Sparks star Zoe Kazan, having recently torn his ACL playing basketball (a somewhat uncanny coincidence since—SPOILER ALERT—his character takes a brutal beating from Jackman’s in Prisoners, not unlike the bludgeoning inflicted by Daniel Day Lewis in Dano’s breakout film, There Will Be Blood). Earlier in the day, Jackman took a quick time-out to memorialize his affection for Gyllenhaal with a quick pic and a heartfelt tweet: “Not only a great actor but a great mate.” Aww!
