Masterchef Canada Recap, episode 15: And the winner is…

First things first: our regular Masterchef Canada recapper is off on a much-needed holiday, following a harrowing bike accident (which itself was recapped last week). Worse yet: the person tasked with filling her role this week—your author, one Toronto Life Staff (it’s a family name)—has never seen an episode of Masterchef Canada. Moreover, he (or she) believes that cheffing is for the chef classes, and that encouraging lowborn non-chefs to aspire to the status of masterchefdom stands to upset the whole precarious balance of cheffery. It’s against nature. And against God! But anyway.
Last night, according to a press release, one Eric Chong accomplished this up-ending of a rigid social-professional order, graduating from meagre chemical engineer to Canada’s first-ever MasterChef, edging out hopeful Marida Mohammed. Eric’s is a classic story of a young man who wanted to be a chef, but was forced into the chemical engineering game by domineering parents. So, a lesson to you all: never, ever listen to your parents. Ever. They only have your worst interests in mind.
Here’s what the Internet had to say about it:
Congrats @WOK_Lobster on your #MasterChefCanada title! So much talent for a young 21 yr old! Any plans of opening a restaurant in Oakville?

First #MasterChefCanada is Eric the engineer! The lesson I learned is don't listen to your Asian parents and follow your dreams! #MCC

Seriously though if Eric doesn't win tonight, I'm going to throw this tv out the window #MasterChefCanada
