Wikileaks: Canada’s spy chief spent his days mocking Canada
The torrent of gossipy revelations from Wikileaks’ latest outpouring—this time, classified diplomatic cables from U.S. embassies all over the world—has mostly left Canada untouched (so far). The big exception to this is the one and only cable to have been leaked from the Ottawa embassy, in which Canada’s then-CSIS chief Jim Judd had some choice words about, well, us.
From Wikileaks:
Director Judd ascribed an “Alice in Wonderland” worldview to Canadians and their courts, whose judges have tied CSIS “in knots,” making it ever more difficult to detect and prevent terror attacks in Canada and abroad.
And:
He observed that the images [of interrogations] would no doubt trigger “knee-jerk anti-Americanism” and “paroxysms of moral outrage, a Canadian specialty,” as well as lead to a new round of heightened pressure on the government to press for [Omar] Khadr’s return to Canada.
It’s always nice to know that federal employees are putting down their fellow citizens to foreign governments. There’s something so Canadian about the fact that so far, the Canadian bombshell from Wikileaks has been that a high-placed government official was trying to ingratiate himself to Washington by making fun of us.
For his excellent service in mocking to the Canadian people, Judd was given the Outstanding Achievement Award of the Public Service. Try not to think of this when reading that.

Bad enough CSIS has this sense of self-loathing & a desire to be a toadey to America – the military is much worse. Members of theupper echelons hope to be allowed to attend US military training programs as advancement without such training & good relations with USAmerican counterparts is difficult. The USAmericans obviously prefer those who share thier world view. Canadian sovereignity is in the hands of these people. Oh, Canada! Indeed.
Did anyone also note that “Harper was taking it on the chin”
and pressing ahead?
This is absolute proof that Harper and his government are americanizing Canada as we speak.
Harper should resign. He’s an american in costume, and an embarrassment to what Canadians stand for.
Typical whining from the Toronto crowd.Judd was speaking what most Canadians feel.
I think that despite Terrorists having been caught plotting in this city that pple do not take threats seriously! I hope that there is no Sept. 11th on Canadian soil but do not think for 1 second that those murderers will care that Canadians are the ” nice ” ones. That reputation can also get us mislead and taken advantage of in ways that no one would dream to do with Americans!!
What a great improvement would be Americanizing us, but I afraid there is nothing here to work with. More chance of vichying us!
It’s all bad. I think we should send the American diplomats home–at the very least, cripple their activities. Clerks could replace an American visitor’s passport (God know why they would want to visit this inferior country of ours anyway). Surely these diplomats who are not very diplomatic need to be followed whereever they go. They should not be invited to anything. Why do we want them here?
Just like the murdering “Colonel” was stripped of his medals, Judd should be stipped of his Outstanding Achievement Award of the Public Service. How much did we have to pay him? He should be deported to the US.
Just remember where Omar Khadr and the “Toronto 18” came from ..Your flippant website just proves Mr. Judd’s point..People in Toronto do not take terrorism seriously and if their city (a hotbed for terrorists) can’t acknowledge that fact, then why should the rest of Canada take anything said by Torontonians seriously?
Judds analogy of Canadian Courts views are correct. He is not pointing fingers at Canadians. We are victims of our own geography. An ocean on either side and the world police below, which has allowed us to carry on peacefully and somewhat blind to the rest of the world. Our military strength is proof. 60 thousand strong and no way to move them anywhere. We had to hitch a ride initially to Afghanistan and loose lives before we started to outfit our troops. Now we are importing and potentially homegrowing the threat, our geography no longer helps. Support CSIS and the options they deem necessary to protect Canada for Canadians. Do we need a 9-11 before we give them the powers they need to do their job. The 1 thing we very easily forget is our way of life is an exception, not the rule and we are very very fortunate.
Hahaha! So true, so true.
If, and pray God that it never happens, terrorists finally awaken the half asleep liberal zombie judiciary with a successful attack on this country, would said judiciary be able to bury themselves in a deep enough hole in order to hide? Of course they wouldn’t! They would blame our ‘belligerent’ posture as the cause of our misfortune and attaching ourselves to western imperialism.
Sounds familiar? When oh when will the last ragged remnants of TRUDEAUISM die?
Canada’s spy chief? I’d say he’s the CIA’s branch manager for US subsidiary Canada. The man reported negatively on Canadian citizens to a foreign authority. It’s clearly treasonous and he should be charged and tried in court but, since he insists on behaving like a foreigner, we arrest him on a CSIS Security Certificate, hold him indefinitely without charge, subject him to extended periods of isolation, injure his family economically by removing his income from their household and then, if we decide out of the kindness of our glowing Canadian hearts to grant him house arrest after say seven to ten years of imprisonment, tag him with an electronic monitoring device and surveil his residence and communications. Scumbag has no loyalty to the Crown, to Canada, to democracy. This man is an enemy of freedom and should be treated as such.
Thanks, WikiLeaks, for showing us what happens when the citizenry of a nation lets its guard down. Exposing turncoats like Judd should be standard Canadian journalism. Prosecuting them should be standard Canadian jurisprudence.
the world view Canada as a peaceful country and that the way we should stay let the American fight their own war as long we stay neutral i don”t think we have anything to worry about
The illustrious spymaster failed to inform Canadians that the documents used to accuse Omar Khadr of killing a US serviceman with a grenade were totally falsified. The original genuine report revealed that the man who lobbed that grenade was killed; he having been fatally shot by the same man who later shot an unconscious Omar Khadr in the back twice. The CIA and Pentagon under G. W. Bush trampled upon the laws of the United States to bring in an illegal torture/detainment program reminiscence of the Dark Ages and we have a spy chief who complains that Canadian law is hindering his ability to emulate that insanity? Didn’t Hitler complain that the law was getting in the way of his saving Germany from the communists? Sometimes the proposed remedy is worse than the disease. Beware of fear mongering tactics being employed in order to undermine the Canadian Bill of Rights, and due process under law, in deference to master race/sub-human racist policies.
