Public transit is now going to be more crowded, less serviced and (likely) more expensive

With TTC vehicles about to get a little more crowded (or, you know, “friendlier”), Peter Milczyn is suggesting that a 15-cent fare hike could stave off some of the cuts. But TTC chair Karen Stintz counters that the hike will be no higher than 10 cents—she thinks people are more concerned about increased fares than decreased service (we’re pretty sure they’re concerned about both). Meanwhile, the province is sticking to its tight-fisted policies regarding funding Toronto transit. After NDP MPP Jonah Schein asked for more provincial dough, municipal affairs minister Kathleen Wynne said, “The city of Toronto created the situation in which it finds itself and the city of Toronto is going to have to talk among [itself] and figure out how it’s going to resolve its issues.” The city of Toronto also has several choices for which politician it resents the most now.
