Toronto’s ombudsman says Rob Ford used city hall security officers like hired goons

A report by city ombudsman Fiona Crean, set to be released on Thursday, will detail several ways Rob Ford abused his power over city hall’s security staff, according to the Star. The report isn’t public yet, so the specifics are sketchy, but the Star says Crean will find particular fault with Ford’s use of city security as private muscle (on one occasion, apparently, a guard even put his palm over a CCTV camera at city hall to prevent it from recording the ex-mayor while he was wasted). The Star says the report will also detail times when Ford’s influence over security guards created dangerous situations in public, like during a November 2013 council meeting when, with nobody to restrain him, Ford infamously bowled over councillor Pam McConnell.
