Call it civic pride, but we usually feel pangs of envy when Vancouver outranks Toronto on any list. Well, not this time. The latest list to make news ranks Canada’s riskiest cities for on-line identity fraud. Toronto placed a laggardly eighth in the new study carried out for Norton Symantec; Vancouver placed fourth. Smaller communities topped the list, with Burlington emerging as the riskiest city in the country. The results are a mixed blessing, though, since they also reveal that Vancouver has greater access to computers, Internet and Wi-Fi. In fact, cities with increased availability of technology ranked higher on the fraud list. We wonder what this says about Montreal, which came in 25th.
