After two seasons as head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Craig Berube has been fired.
The move follows the end of a disappointing hockey season in which the Leafs failed to make the playoffs for the first time in a decade, though Berube did take the team to postseason during his first year, advancing to the second round.
Former general manager Brad Treliving was also let go last March.

In a statement, current general manager John Chayka said Berube’s departure should not be read as him failing as a coach.
“Craig is a tremendous coach and an even better person,” the statement said. “This decision is more reflective of an organizational shift and an opportunity for a fresh start than it is an evaluation of Craig. We are grateful for his leadership, professionalism and commitment to the Maple Leafs organization and wish Craig and his family nothing but the best moving forward.”
