Rob Ford goes on a self-flagellation tour

Earlier today, Rob Ford sat down for rare one-one-one interviews with CP24 and CBC News, giving the two broadcasters the dubious honour of being the first to question the mayor formally, post-rehab. The answers (and, honestly, the questions) were nearly identical in both interviews. Ford was generally contrite, referring to his drug and alcohol problems as a “disease” that he’ll struggle with for the rest of his life. He admitted to having used a variety of substances even before becoming mayor. As he has in the past, though, he evaded questions about why he won’t speak to police investigators. He was similarly tight-lipped about LeeAnn McRobb, the woman who, during his rehab stay, was charged with driving his Escalade while intoxicated. If nothing else, Ford’s time in recovery has taught him a few more stock phrases. In both interviews, he repeated the following line when asked whether he could guarantee that the remainder of his term would be free of substance-abuse problems: “I know I didn’t drink yesterday, and I know I haven’t drank today. I’m taking it one day at a time.”
