Police watched Gawker editor John Cook watch the Rob Ford crack video

Here’s a comforting bit of news for Gawker editor John Cook: as he sat in a car outside a Dixon Road housing development last May with a nervous stranger who was trying to pawn a politically explosive video of Rob Ford, six Toronto police officers were watching. Less comforting: the cops suspected Cook of illegal small arms trafficking. According to police documents obtained by the Toronto Star, the organized crime unit was surveilling Mohamed Siad that day in hopes of catching him in the act of selling a firearm. When they realized Siad was hocking “a cellular phone, not a gun,” they figured nothing was going to happen and went home. Sigh. [Toronto Star]
