The sky is falling! (Or just bits of airplane and glass)

The sky is falling! (Or just bits of airplane and glass)

GTA-residents had a couple more reasons to fear the heavens yesterday (in addition to the concrete chunks of highway and condo glass already raining down on the city). Apparently, debris from a Boeing 777 en route to Japan fell from the sky onto Mississauga yesterday afternoon, shattering the back windshield of a car, and freaking out locals. The Air Canada plane was en route to Japan when one of the engines shut down, forcing it to return to Pearson Airport for an emergency landing; hot bits of blackened metal reportedly fell off the plane while it was circling the airport waiting for clearance. A couple of hours later, the danger shifted downtown—glass fell from the towering RBC Centre on Wellington Street, forcing police to block off the surrounding area. The hard hat: summer’s hottest accessory?
