Michael Ford’s Facebook page lists him as a 2010 high school graduate, an account executive at the Ford family label company and a counselor at Camp Kandalore. In 2014, there’s a non-trivial possibility that he’ll be able to pad out that resume with “Toronto city council candidate.” That is, assuming people with hereditary wealth even bother with resumes.

“Mikey,” as Rob Ford has been known to refer to him, was first floated by the Ford brothers as a potential candidate in October, on their since-cancelled weekly radio show on Newstalk 1010. The world had more or less forgotten about that until yesterday, when Doug Ford, during an interview with Newstalk host Jerry Agar, once again hinted that a new member of the Ford family would be seeking municipal office in 2014. Little did we realize exactly how new this mystery Ford would be. According to the Star, he’s the son of the Rob and Doug’s sister, Kathy.

Doug is widely expected not to run for reelection in Ward 2, so he can try for a seat at Queen’s Park. Ward 2 has been in the Ford family for 13 years; Rob was first elected councillor there in 2000.

Could the Fords actually hand off their political office to a relative who apparently isn’t even old enough to rent a car? Considering the fact that Mikey will have more than a decade’s worth of name recognition and hamburger giveaways working in his favour, it’s far from impossible.
