Mel Lastman gets some furniture-sales help from the mayor who made him look good

now-what-new

The goofball-mayor singularity has arrived. The National Post reports that Wednesday’s Toronto Star contained a full-page advertisement in which Rob Ford shills for Bad Boy, the furniture store owned by Mel Lastman, whose stint as mayor will now forever be to Ford’s as Star Wars Episode IV (light, entertaining) is to Episode V (dark, people lose limbs). The ad leads with a photo of Ford reclining on a leather sectional couch with built-in cup holders—surely the living room accoutrement of choice for all former chief magistrates. Bad Boy’s CEO, Blayne Lastman, tells the Post Ford wandered into the store to buy something, but ended up agreeing to pose for some photos (nothing unusual there). Ford’s legal troubles make for an unfortunate juxtaposition with the Bad Boy logo: a smirking man in prison garb.
