Justin Trudeau’s 60 Minutes appearance stirs up love (and hate) on American Twitter

Last night, with just days to go before his state dinner with Barack Obama, Justin Trudeau appeared on the CBS show 60 Minutes. His one-on-one interview, pitched squarely at the show’s largely American viewership, served as a primer on the Canadian prime minister, and included hard-hitting revelations like the fact that the House of Commons is where Canadian laws are passed, and also that maybe Kim Cattrall is Justin Trudeau’s mother. (She isn’t.) While many Canadians were critical of the softball questions, the American reaction, at least on Twitter, was far more, um, multifaceted.
Some Americans gobbled up Trudeau’s charm offensive:
So admire Canada's PM Justin Trudeau. Love & courage will always prevail. He's the polar opposite of the hate & bigotry of Trump. @60minutes

60 Minutes feature on Justin Trudeau knocked it out of the park. A breath of fresh air in the midst of our current campaign.

@JustinTrudeau I am American. Just watched you on @60Minutes and I am now a huge fan. Our candidates could learn from you. Thank you.

Other Americans want Trudeau to pull a Ted Cruz and run for president:
60 Minutes piece on Canadian PM Justin Trudeau was a winner. Made one wish he was American born in Canada instead of Cruz

Others went a little further:
Watching the #JustinTrudeau interview on #60Minutes. Love this guy! Can we (USA) become a vassal state of #Canada, please?

Some Americans got upset when Trudeau said they should pay more attention to the rest of the world:
@60Minutes @JustinTrudeau Nobody does more for the world than U. S. Citizens. We are tired of the world hating us so to hell with you.

@60Minutes @JustinTrudeau Why is the governor of Canada taking shots at US? I get he doesn't like @BarackObama over pipeline

@60Minutes @JustinTrudeau Pretty arrogant statement from a kid who never worked a day in his life.

@JustinTrudeau…barely cleaned of his amniotic fluid, wishes US paid "a little more attention to the world." I wish he ate solids.

Other Americans offered nuanced criticism of Trudeau’s refugee policy:
easy to be a total wussy wen you kno the US will fight the real battles. Canada is a joke. @JustinTrudeau #ignorance https://t.co/I2NUgxKzSm
