As the media tries to wrap its head around the fact that John Tory simply isn’t running for mayor, some are hinging their increasingly ridiculous hopes on other non-candidates. Today, that non-candidate was David Miller, who was asked by reporters at the opening of Sugar Beach if he’s reconsidering his decision to not run for re-election.

Says the Post:

“People keep asking me that question,” [Miller] told reporters today at the Water’s Edge Promenade and Canada’s Sugar Beach, cornerstones of the city’s waterfront revitalization. “On days like today, where you see the results of several years of hard work and I know behind the scenes what it took to push to make this happen, you’re obviously tempted,” he said, letting the speculation hang.

Pressed on whether that means he is reconsidering, he said: “No. But I gotta have some fun with you.”

If there’s one lesson we’ve learned from John Tory, it’s that a simple “no” is never enough. If Miller really wanted to put an end to speculation, he should have used as many superlatives as possible. Something like “never, ever, with absolute certainty, until the end of time.” We’re still wondering, though, when Al Gore will come out of the woodwork to save the day.

FYI: Miller not reconsidering a run for office
