Sad news: one of the Occupy Toronto yurts is gone for good

We’ve been following the fate of one of the humble Occupy Toronto yurts since it was still bravely standing in St. James Park. After the camp was dismantled, the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (which paid $20,000 to provide the yurts to protesters) donated one of the canvas-clad huts to serve as an art centre and gathering place at troubled Northern Ontario reserve Attawapiskat. We thought that was a happy ending, but now Rabble.ca is reporting that the structure was set on fire and burned to the ground on April 1. An investigation is underway.
