Now that winter has truly arrived, some may regret binge-watching Making a Murderer on Boxing Day instead of buying down coats and slush-proof boots on the cheap. Thankfully, lots of post-holiday sales are still ongoing. Here’s where to go and what to look for:
For coats: JCrew The preppy retailer is known for great sales, and this one is particularly super: until end of day tomorrow, shoppers can take an extra 40 per cent off all winter sale items—meaning lots of things are discounted by 80 per cent or more. Options include fuzzy turtleneck sweaters, metallic stilettos, tailored dresses and, our favourite, this sunny pea coat—ideal for battling the bleak months ahead. It’s on sale for $98 (all the way down from $358). Until January 6. Multiple locations, 1-800-562-0258, jcrew.ca.
For celeb-endorsed sweaters: Aritzia Aritzia is on the sale train for a couple more days, with discounts ranging from barely noticeable ($3—$5 off $100 items) to fairly significant (50 per cent off select merch). Some deals are clearly better than others, but almost everything is on sale—even this Babaton sweater, recently sported by Drake’s new BFF Kendall Jenner (it’s marked down almost $100 to $199). Until January 7. Multiple locations, 1-855-274-8942, aritzia.com.
For designer bags: Zane The city’s go-to destination for stylish accessories is offering discounts of up to 70 per cent this January, both online and at its Yorkville and Queen West locations. There’s no set end date—the sale simply lasts until stock runs out (which could be soon, considering the number of covetable items up for grabs). We particularly love this practical periwinkle tote from Rebecca Minkoff, which is priced at a tempting $163 (marked down from $325). Multiple locations, visitzane.ca.
For warm winter boots: Gravity Pope No store has a larger selection of fashionable footwear than Gravity Pope. This week, all sale items are reduced by a further 20 per cent with the promo code BOXINGWEEK20. It’s the perfect chance to score sturdy winter boots, like these classic cowboy-inspired Blundstones, which are almost $100 off. Until January 7. 1010 Queen St. W., 647-748-5155, gravitypope.com.
For festive leftovers: Drake General Store Although the store’s official Boxing Day sale is over, it’s bringing back the exact same deal—30 per cent off all sale merch—for a one-day flash sale next Wednesday, January 13. It’s online only, and includes a mix of things you probably don’t need (Christmas stockings, tree decorations) and some you might (warm socks, kids’ jackets). Anyone who’s feeling jealous of all those cozy onesie Instagrams over the holidays can pick up plenty of patterned PJs—for far less than their friends spent. January 13. Drakegeneralstore.ca.
For minimalist basics: Oak and Fort The Vancouver import currently has a wealth of winter apparel on sale for less than $100. It’s a fantastic opportunity to stock up on chunky knit turtleneck dresses and other chic-and-shapeless winter staples. The sale is on until stock runs out. Multiple locations, oakandfort.ca.
For sleek suits: Tiger of Sweden The Ossington shop’s Boxing Week sale extends well into the month. Everything from its fall and holiday collections—including woollen coats, party dresses and luxe leather accessories—is up to 50 per cent off. Some of the best deals are on the brand’s sophisticated suits, and this double-breasted blazer is ideal for classing it up in the new year. Until (at least) January 17. 56 Ossington Ave., 416-588-4437, tigerofsweden.ca.
For upcycled loungewear: Preloved The online shop’s “Now or Never” sale includes huge discounts on the brand’s patchwork sweaters and other rehabilitated items. This cheerful, heart-patterened piece is almost half off, and would make seriously cute reading attire. Happy hibernation. Until January 18. Getpreloved.com.
For curated menswear: Haven The Queen East store has great deals on faux-fur parkas, slick sneakers and designer athleisure gear. We love this rugged pullover jacket from Japanese brand Nonnative, which is on sale for $667 from $995. 145 Berkeley St., 647-344-4745, havenshop.ca.
For ethical kids’ clothes: Fort Kids The local brand sells children’s clothing and accessories made from organic fabrics and recycled materials. The stuff is also extremely adorable, and is up to 50 per cent off for the rest of the month. These chambray pants will make sure your kid is the coolest guy on the playground. Until January 29.
