Whether you’re an aspiring chef, takeout master or avid entertainer, the kitchen will always be the hub of the home. In the world of home appliances, new designs and exciting features are continually being released to help simplify and improve your life—from ovens that can program your cooking based on what’s inside to handleless fridges that open with the tap of an elbow.
Here, Tasco Appliances expert Tianna shares what she sees designers loving and customers bringing home in 2024. Read on to learn which luxury appliances are worth your investment.
From panel-ready fridges to touchscreen appliances, clean lines are dominating the kitchen. Panel-ready options allow for a perfectly flush, integrated finish that screams contemporary luxe. These appliances have been around for a long time, but in the past, the panels sat “proud,” sticking out past the surrounding cabinetry. Now, more brands offer a perfectly flush installation for that clean look on fridges, dishwashers and more, says Tianna.
Handles are disappearing everywhere, from cabinetry to appliances, further emphasizing a minimalist aesthetic. Designed with a spring mechanism, all it takes is a bump of the hip or tap of an elbow to open up a ginormous built-in fridge or Wolf wall oven, which is convenient when your hands are carrying a roast or covered in cookie batter.
Kitchen technology continues to evolve with the goal of simplifying everyday tasks and making tastier meals. “Not a lot of appliances have introduced artificial intelligence, but we’re starting to see it,” says Tianna. One Samsung oven uses AI to take photos of your food, determines what it is and selects the correct programming to ensure it’s cooked to perfection.
While Wi-Fi connectivity isn’t new, it’s continuing to improve daily life. Take the smart refrigerator that snaps pictures of your fridge interior so you can easily check the contents while at the grocery store to see if your kids gulped the last of the orange juice. Intelligent appliances also take the guesswork out of any functional issues that may arise, providing diagnoses that often eliminate the need for servicing.
When it comes to finishing accents, brass is the current go-to for designers and buyers alike. Luxury appliance brands, including La Cornue and Café, feature stunning ranges with brass and copper finishes that can instantly elevate any gourmet space.
While stainless steel appliances continue to be popular overall, Tianna has noticed a surge in matte hues. “We’re seeing a lot of matte black now as manufacturers have replaced their black stainless look,” says Tianna. “Café’s matte white, introduced about five years ago, is a growing trend with designers and customers who are looking for an alternative to traditional stainless steel.”
Specialty ice makers, coffee stations and gas ranges are just some of the chef-ready details that Tianna sees dominating. There’s growing interest in induction due to its comparable power and control, while being safer and more efficient. That being said, gas is often requested by avid home chefs. “When somebody’s after that chef-style kitchen, it’s gas all the way,” says Tianna.
The ability to serve up robust drink offerings continues to be in high demand, especially for those who love to entertain. Monogram sits at the top of the luxe ice game with their Forge Heated Ice Press that forms spherical ice perfect for cocktail connoisseurs, while Miele offers a variety of countertop coffee units that rival built-ins, minus the hefty price tag.
