Line’s cozy and warm fall/winter 2012 collection leaves us wishing it was still cold outside
John Muscat and Jennifer Wells showed their Line knitwear collection yesterday afternoon to a room that included guests like Jeanne Beker, woman-about-town Biko Beauttah and Jaclyn Genovese. Though 29 looks were perhaps too many (how many sweaters can one person look at?), the knit toppers looked cozy and snuggly. Muscat and Wells played with proportion, in oversized knits and capes, and pattern, using Fair Isle and abstract designs they called “reminiscent of rustic terrains.” The skilled knit work was visible in tops primarily, but skirts got the same treatment—the abstract designs melded maroon into grey and black. Our favourites were the wrapped cape in blue, soft purple and grey, a mod black and white zigzag sweater-dress with leather sleeves (like a more affordable version of Missoni) and a heather-grey wrapped tunic. Though we don’t want to even contemplate thinking about cold weather for another six months, if we have to, these cuddly sweaters are a sight cuter than a Slanket.
