For The Girls is a new lingerie shop on Roncesvalles run by Patricia Welbourn, one half of the husband-and-wife team behind Dundas West dive bar The Communist’s Daughter. The place peddles both sexy and functional undergarments, including colourful lacy thongs, supportive sports bras and even nipple-concealing adhesives. Shoppers will find soft bamboo-fibre items from Toronto brand C’est Moi alongside chic, high-waisted panties and pretty bras from local Parkdale label Fortnight. The tables are scattered with quality, mid-priced brands like Hanky Panky and Commando, as well as comfy basics from Montreal-based Miel and Anita. The space has a casual retro vibe (the changing area boasts plush red carpets, pink curtains and a 70s-style armchair) that’s anything but intimidating. Once the maternity wear arrives (Welbourn will soon carry nursing bras by Bravado), it could be the ultimate one-stop-underwear-shop for west enders.
