Domison and BoConcept to join King East’s furniture store row

Two new contemporary furniture stores are set to open in the next few weeks within a couple blocks of each other. Domison, a Montreal-based design company, and BoConcept, a Danish firm, are both putting finishing touches on their St. Lawrence Market–area storefronts, close to established names like Filter, EQ3, Visitor Parking, Klaus by Nienkämper, Trianon and many others.

Domison calls its furniture “sophisticated, vanguard and unique, but, mostly, affordable.” Its first Toronto location, set to open at the end of March, boasts a distinctive room that owner Thien tells us will feature metal insertions, lots of stark white space and wood podiums. Like the Rue Saint-Laurent store in Montreal, it will carry Domison’s signature brand, which includes sofas and armchairs, beds, tables and chairs and more, as well as pieces from a few smaller studios across Canada, including Montreal-based LoooLo Textiles. “[The] Domison brand is really geared toward being able to bridge that combination of edgy design, modernity and also a well-priced range,” Thien says. “That’s the real concept of this brand.”

With Canadian locations in Vancouver and Calgary, and international locations in New York, Tokyo, Copenhagen, Hamburg and London, Denmark-based BoConcept is set to open in Toronto on April 7 on the ground floor of the Vü condominium at Jarvis and Adelaide. Offering furniture for work and home, BoConcept’s stores are staffed with trained design consultants who offer in-store or at-home consultations for customers. Dominique Roberge, the general manager of the store, said in a release that the store strives to provide “high-quality yet affordable modern design.”
