Canada’s fledgling fashion industry was fêted this weekend at the Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards, the inaugural awards ceremony for Canadian designers, models, stylists and photographers. The show, which was held on February 1 at the Fairmont Royal York, attracted homegrown fashion heroes like Joe Mimran,Jeanne Beker andCoco Rocha, plus up-and-coming talents like photographer Tommy Ton. As for the awards, there were no real shockers, but design duo Dean and Dan Caten of Milan-based label DSquared2 cleaned up—they bagged the trophies for International Designer of the Year as well as Outstanding Achievement. Not surprisingly, former <em>The Face</em> star <strong>Coco Rocha, </strong>who burst onto the fashion scene performing an Irish jig step at <a href="http://www.elle.com/news/fashion-style/coco-rocha-jean-paul-gaultier-spring-2014" target="_blank"><strong>Jean Paul Gaultier's</strong></a> 2007 show, received the award for Model of the Year
Accessory Designer of the Year went to design team <strong>Dexter</strong> and <strong>Byron Peart,</strong> who are the creative forces behind sophisticated travel brand <a href="http://www.wantessentiels.com/us_en/" target="_blank">Want Les Essentials de la Vie</a>
The twin designers behind the brand<a href="http://www.dsquared2.com/" target="_blank"> DSquared2,</a> <strong>Dean</strong> and <strong>Dan Caten,</strong> picked up the trophy for International Designer of the Year, and also bagged an award for Outstanding Achievement
