These chairs take the “country” out of French country

French country decor is all over the city’s top design stores right now, but the antique pieces and reproductions are often stuffy and ornate, outfitted with dark wood and traditional fabrics. That’s why a candy-hued bergère armchair in the window of Roche Bobois made us stop the car and turn around. The fabrics, a modern contrast to the Louis XVI-style beech frame, have been designed exclusively for the store.

$6,035 at Roche Bobois. 101 Parliament St., 416-366-3273, rochebobois.com.
