House of the Week: $2 million for a Frank Lloyd Wright–inspired home with a golf course view

The house for sale at 3 Fourthgreen Place

Address: 3 Fourthgreen Place
Neighbourhood: Markland Wood Agent: Michael Rayson, Royal LePage Real Estate Services Ltd., Brokerage Price: $1,990,000

The place: A Frank Lloyd Wright–inspired home with a geometric design.

The history: Architect George Buchan was inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s David and Gladys Wright House, a home with a distinctive corkscrew aesthetic. The Fourthgreen house, completed in 1968, still has some of its trippier elements, but there have been modern upgrades in the last few years: new roof shingles, hardwood flooring to replace the (presumably shag) carpeting, and new doors and windows.

Big selling point: Fitness-minded hippies will love the central yoga studio—and also the separate exercise room, swimming pool, and sauna.

Possible deal breaker: The octagonal design on an irregular, pie-shaped lot might be unsettling for some, but it has its benefits: ten exits on every level and angle of the house, meaning there are plenty of ways to step out for fresh air and admire the golf course view.

By the Numbers:

• $1,990,000 • $8,509.58 in taxes (2015) • 5023 square feet • 226 feet of frontage • 17-foot window wall • 5 bedrooms • 5 bathrooms • 4 parking spaces • 1 yoga studio

Here’s the foyer. The kitchen and living areas are upstairs. Downstairs, there are some recreation areas and bedrooms.

The main attraction on the lower level is this billiards room. The pool table isn’t listed as an inclusion, but the sellers are willing to part with their furniture for a price. Note the wood ceiling. We’re going to be seeing a lot more of those.

This is one of two bedrooms on the lower level. The window is actually a sliding door.

This bedroom is being used as a den. It has another of those sliding doors.

The entire house is built around this epic, octagonal open space, with a fireplace and built-in benches. It’s called a “yoga studio” on the floor plan, but it could be used as a living room or party space.

Next to the yoga studio is this little exercise alcove, with another sliding door to the outside.

Also on the lower level, a sauna.

And the sauna has a side-by-side double shower, for the couple that can never be apart.

And the master bedroom, which has steps, for some reason.

The master bedroom’s en suite bathroom has a pretty serious tub.

The backyard obviously looks a lot nicer during warm weather. The pool is under the green tarp.
