The place: The top floor of a Victorian mansion just north of High Park. It comes with direct, in-suite elevator access, a tree-top-level terrace and a parking space.
The history: Built in 1889 for West Toronto mayor George St. Leger, the mansion served at various points in time as a sanatorium, a maternity hospital and eventually a derelict rooming house. In 2004, the city approved its conversion into seven condo units, with the condition that heritage elements—including the two-storey veranda, gables, dormers and red-brick exterior—be restored and maintained. The sellers bought this unit in 2010.
Big selling point: The High Park subway station and park entrance are just around the corner, and Bloor West Village’s shops are 10 minutes away by foot.
Possible deal breaker: A tall building stands to the south of this one, obstructing the view of the park. The terrace still has a decent view to the northwest, though.
