A three-bedroom, two-bathroom net-zero Quonset hut sitting on five acres of certified wildlife habitat in Grey County. The home comes equipped with a barrel sauna, a steel firepit and a huge workshop garage. Motorists are 10 minutes from Devil’s Glen Country Club, 20 minutes from downtown Collingwood and two hours from Toronto.

The home was built in 2018 for an industrial designer and herbalist who wanted it to be in harmony with nature. It was designed by award-winning architect Andy Thomson and styled after farming infrastructure to pay homage to the region’s history.
The façade is a custom-engineered 14-gauge galvanized steel wall with a steel roof and white-pine siding. The insulated walls and heated, polished concrete floors help keep things airtight and naturally maintain a comfortable temperature year-round.
A panoramic window wall brings tons of natural light into the open concept living and dining area.
Opposite the window wall is the kitchen, with custom maple cabinets by Vivi Tree and a butcher block waterfall island made by local Mennonite artisans.
The kitchen’s rear counter is stainless steel, and Spanish tiles make up the backsplash. That staircase to the second floor is made of glass and more white pine.
There’s no need for art on the walls with such dramatic undulating surfaces.
Here’s the main bedroom, with white-pine floors and vintage nightstands.
A reverse angle showcases the ensuite bathroom, separated by a stand-alone wall.
Spanish ceramic tiles add a splash of colour to the ensuite’s rainfall shower. And the door to the water closet folds to save space.
The ensuite also comes with a walnut double vanity and quartz counters.
What ski-country escape would be complete without a jumbo free-standing soaker tub with a view?
This is one of the secondary bedrooms, with a large triple-glazed tilt-swing-and-turn window overlooking the front porch.
The shared bathroom has more of those vibrant Spanish tiles as well as heated concrete floors and layered LED ambient lighting.
Moving outside reveals the 1,300-square-foot workshop and garage, with space for three cars. The organic vegetable garden lives between the main house and those teepee-like structures.
Hundreds of trees planted by the owner—all indigenous species—flank the home.
Lastly, here’s a look at the steel firepit in action at dusk.
