The place

A three-plus-one-bedroom, four-bathroom home in downtown Orangeville. The place has 10-foot ceilings throughout, two laundry rooms and an elevator connecting everything. It’s close to shops, restaurants and parks, and Collingwood is less than an hour’s drive away.

The history

Built in the early 1900s, this property is one of Orangeville’s first houses and the former office of the sheriff. The current owners, a couple, purchased it in 2021 and spent just over two years making upgrades, including a three-storey addition to the rear of the home. During demolition, they discovered many quirks, like the sheriff’s original jail cell, which is now the wine cellar.

The tour

From the street, it looks like a quaint suburban bungalow, featuring three of the original walls.

This house used to be the office of the Orangeville sheriff.

But the back of the home is something else entirely: a huge modern extension with plenty of windows, a deck and a garage that leads to a mudroom.

The rear addition: huge and modern.

Inside, there are new vaulted ceilings along with engineered oak floors.

The owners raised the ceilings of the original house during their renovation.

This is the open-concept living, dining and kitchen area. That marble column contains a two-sided fireplace.

That's a fireplace standing in the middle of the living space.

The kitchen comes with quartzite counters, a camouflaged fridge, a gas cooktop with an electric oven, pendant lighting and cabinets with anti-fingerprint surfaces.

Plenty of cabinets and Fisher and Paykel appliances in the kitchen.

Wall-to-wall sliding doors connect the kitchen to the northeast-facing deck.

Note the wall-to-wall sliding doors walking out to the deck.

The walk-in doubles as a laundry room.

There’s a second laundry room, outfitted with lots of storage, down here too.
