Location: Campbellville
Price: $2,500,000 Size: 3,100 square feet on 1.4 acres of land Bedrooms: 3 Bathrooms: 3 Real estate agent: Michael Phinney, Royal LePage

The Place

A three-bedroom, three-bathroom, two-and-a-half-storey detached in pastoral Campbellville. The home comes with a 1,800-square-foot garage and a swim spa in the backyard. It’s a 15-minute drive from Burlington, a 20-minute drive from the Aldershot GO station and roughly an hour from downtown Toronto.

The History

This house was built in 1868, allegedly by a man named William Van Norman, who was a Pennsylvania Dutch Loyalist. The property has undergone significant renovations since then, such as connecting a previously separate coach house to the main home. The current owners purchased it in 2017 and updated the backyard with a stone patio and an outdoor fireplace. They’re now downsizing and putting the place on the market.

The Tour

In the foyer: the original door and transom windows, which are blown glass. The door lock requires a long-lost skeleton key, so it can be opened only from inside, meaning future residents will have to use the side entrance.

A reverse view highlights the century-old hardwood floors as well as the original millwork—the trim, stairwell newel post, handrail and wainscoting—that dates back to 1868.

The side door opens into a giant mudroom. Those stairs lead up to the coach house, and that door in the background leads to a powder room/laundry room combo.

Moving back to the main house reveals the second-floor landing, which connects all three bedrooms. There’s a balcony on the other side of that arched window, and the floors are original pumpkin pine.
