Cottage of the Week: $1.5 million for a new-build on a semi-private island

Address: Whitt Island Neighbourhood: Gravenhurst, Ontario Agent: Jack Janssen, Chestnut Park Real Estate Price: $1,495,000

The Place: A cottage built in 2005 on a two-acre plot of Lake Muskoka island land.

Bragging Rights: The new owners will be sharing a designer with a famous-ish rich guy. David Gillett, who designed Kevin O’Leary’s Muskoka manse, built this home as well.

Big Selling Point: We’re partial to the 28-foot floor-to-ceiling fireplace, but golfers will love the close proximity to Taboo, which is only about a ten-minute boat ride away.

Possible Deal Breaker: Though the inhabitants of this place will have significantly fewer neighbours than the average mainlander, this island is split up into two parcels. On the plus side, if the owners ever run out of sugar, they won’t have to hop on a boat to get more.

By the Numbers:

• $1,495,000 • 2,600 square feet • 28-foot fireplace • 4 bedrooms • 3 bathrooms • 2 acres • 2-slip dock • 1 island • 1 fancy designer

This article originally identified David Gillett as an architect. In fact, he’s a designer.
