The place

A two-plus-one-bedroom, three-bathroom condo in Yorkville, one of only three two-storey homes in the building’s 152 units. The home features a 400-square-foot walkout courtyard, custom millwork, white-oak herringbone floors, 10-foot coffered ceilings and a 24-hour concierge that includes valet service, making the condo feel more like a hotel. It’s within walking distance of the neighbourhood’s many shops and restaurants as well as Bay station. And motorists are a short drive from both Bayview and the DVP.

The history

The Prince Arthur on Avenue Road, completed in 1999, was Yorkville’s first luxury condo. Before its occupancy, the neighbourhood comprised almost entirely commercial buildings and single-family homes. Its iconic grey six-tonne granite couch, which sits beyond the oval archways on the drive, was installed as a way of welcoming residents back home. Even Atom Egoyan was taken by the building’s inviting set-up—so much so that he used it as a backdrop for his 2009 sexual thriller, Chloe.
