This 125-year-old coach house could be yours for free*

*Provided, that is, you’re willing to pay for it to be moved somewhere other than 119 Isabella Street, where it currently stands. The building is home to the Casey House Foundation, a charity that provides treatment to people with HIV/AIDS. The Star reports that the foundation had originally wanted to incorporate the heritage-designated coach house into a new healthcare centre planned for the site, but the scheme wound up being impractical.
Then came this tweet from area city councillor Kristyn Wong-Tam, which according to the Star is a completely legitimate offer:
Want a FREE coach house? Built in 1889, this special heritage building is yours if you can move it. #119Isabella pic.twitter.com/twV09Sd7lG

And they say Toronto’s property market is overvalued.
Anyone interested in putting this place up on jacks had better hurry, though. Groundbreaking is scheduled for fall 2014.
Heartbreaking News. My father bought this coach house in the 1950’s and I grew up there and worked in it. We sold it to Casey house in the 1990’s. It would truly be a shame to loose this beautiful piece of history, with so much of the downtown core becoming glass and steel condos. The soul of the city is fading away as developers take over. Soon there will be nothing left.
Greg, perhaps you should take up this offer! It certainly can be done.
I wish I could.
Now this is a time when I would not mind my tax dollars being used for something out of the norm rather than for a set of first class flights for some politician and his wife to sunny Californai. Why cant the gov’t take this on financially and move this home to an available area and give it over as a Non profit office space.
