Here’s a sad update for midtowners who’ve been puzzling over the clouds of black smoke currently hovering above Yorkville. The Star reports that a small fire broke out this morning at 84 Yorkville Avenue—home to Mediterranean bistro Sorrel as well as a spa and a hair salon—and has since spread out of control, requiring over 60 firefighters to evacuate the building. The fire reportedly began at 8:30 a.m. on the second floor. Two hours later, flames were shooting from the roof, despite firefighters’ efforts to contain the blaze by dousing the building with water from neighbouring rooftops. The cause of the fire and extent of the damage are currently unknown.
