Where magazine names Acadia Toronto’s best new restaurant
This morning, Where announced its annual picks for the best new restaurant in each of the regions the travel magazine covers in Canada. The winner for Toronto, unsurprisingly, was Acadia, Matt Blondin and Scott Selland’s buzzy new Clinton Street temple to the cuisine of the Lowcountry, which the Where editors praised for its “precisely pruned menu of seasonal sea- and soul-food dishes in a space that’s evocative of an old, oceanside cottage.” Other picks across the country include Calgary’s Latin-tinged Ox and Angela, Parry Sound’s Kudos Kuisine and the vintage-glam Hawksworth Restaurant in Vancouver’s Rosewood Hotel Georgia. After reading raving reviews on Acadia, I went twice, once for ther regular menu and once for the NYE menu. Both times were big disappointment. Regular menu was much better than NYE menu though. 2 different group of friends at both times all agreed that most dishes were very salty, not to mention the very small portion. Cocktails weren’t tasty either, unless you like very strong cocktails that taste like cough medicine. Service was fine.
It’s my understanding that they had a 1970’s inspired menu on NYE, not the fare they usually serve. I have dined at Acadia twice, and have had great experiences on both occasions. Either way, the restaurant deserves the praises it’s been getting IMO

Congratulations Matt, Scott & team for a job well done. You deserve every bit of the great press you get.
Well looks like these differences of opinion will have a chance to sort themselves out come the start of Dish Duel (http://www.dishduelto.com).
Acadia’s one of the 16 restos volunteering a great dish for the tournament. Expect they’ll do quite well given all the praise.
