Toronto’s first Farm Boy will open this fall

Farm Boy, the popular Ottawa-based supermarket with more than 23 locations, will open its first store at 841 Brown’s Line Road. The Ontario chain, which started as a family-owned produce stand in Cornwall, is about all of today’s trendy buzzwords: local, sustainable, artisanal, house-made and (when possible) organic.

The 20,000-square-foot store will have a butcher counter (from which they will sell 20 varieties of their own sausages, among other things), over 300 kinds of cheese, sustainable seafood (they don’t carry any red- or yellow-listed wild seafood species), a bulk section and the Farm Boy Kitchen, a fast-casual restaurant for eat-in or to-go meals like Thai red curry pork, bison shepherd’s pie, chorizo corn dogs and wood-fired pizza. (The ingredients and nutritional information of each can be found on their website.) The store also carries items from more than 100 local producers, and 500 of their own Farm Boy–branded products. What they don’t carry: things that aren’t edible—this is no one-stop shop. It’s like Trader Joe’s meets Whole Foods meets a farmers’ market—and hopefully it’ll be open in time for Thanksgiving.
