Getting a table at Toronto’s hottest restaurants often requires a whole lot of planning and sometimes, just plain luck. (Just try impressing this Saturday’s date with dinner at Bar Isabel going the Bookenda route—we dare you.) But a new Montreal-based app makes it easy to score foresight-free, last-minute reservations. DINR, available on iOS and Android, searches the databases of 14 top Toronto restaurants, chosen for the experiences and commitment to quality they offer (including Alo, Omaw, Edulis, Boralia and Bar Isabel), to find out which ones have bookings available. If a table isn’t free at the restaurant you want, DINR will ping you when one opens up that same night—the reservations come to you. The app is free to download and there’s no extra cost to reserve tables (just a credit card), but there is one small caveat: no-shows are automatically charged $30. Consider it fair punishment for standing someone up.
