If you help these guys build their restaurant, they’ll pay you (in tacos)

Thanks to sites like Kickstarter, it’s now possible to feel vaguely benevolent about donating cash to random commercial enterprises without getting much in return—except a branded hat, maybe, or naming rights to a sandwich. Tilde, a yet-to-open taco shop at Pape and Danforth, is the latest Toronto business to attempt to bypass (or at least supplement) the tricky investor-wooing stage of restauranteurship by asking the public to kick in their support.

Rather than beg for money online, though, co-owner Gauravi Shah is asking Toronto taco lovers to help renovate the forthcoming taqueria at 699 Danforth Avenue this weekend. That’s right: on Sunday, May 18, you’re formally invited to donate your time and manual labour to some businesspeople who would rather that you—and not well-paid professional contractors or journeymen—paint their walls and haul their furniture around. Don’t worry, though: you’ll receive payment in the form of one free taco per hour of help. (After they open.)
