If you often find yourself debating the merits of a washed versus bloomy rind—or you just really love cheese—this event will likely appeal. Throughout February, cheesemakers all over the country submitted their finest wedges to be considered for the inaugural Canadian Cheese Awards, a cheese-on-cheese showdown organized by Pickering cheese enthusiast Georgs Kolesnikovs. (That’s him in the cheese hat.) Last week, 287 cow, sheep, goat and water-buffalo cheeses were blindly sampled by a group of qualified fromagophiles, who whittled the field down to 51 finalists. Tomorrow, tickets go on sale for the final awards ceremony, which takes place at St. Lawrence Market on April 7th. For price of admission, attendees get free beer and wine, plus samples of all the contending cheeses.

Apr. 7. $25. St. Lawrence Market, 92 Front St. E., eventbrite.ca
