In this edition of The Weekender, Shakespeare in High Park, a pop-up market with a party vibe and three more things to do in Toronto this weekend.

SHOPPING
Midnight MRKT
At the bi-monthly pop-up night market, local vendors sell clothing, accessories and home goods alongside street food, drinks and music. Festivities kick off with a courtyard barbecue and end with a late-night dance party once the shopping concludes. July 19. $5 admission. 461 King St. W., 416-263-0122, Facebook

MUSIC
Beaches Jazz Festival (FREE!)
Hundreds of performers descend on the city’s east end for 10 days of rollicking rhythms and steamy solos during the acclaimed annual event. This weekend’s launch at Woodbine Park includes free performances on the main stage and an Afro-beat stage. July 19-28. Free. Woodbine Park, 416-698-2152, beachesjazz.com

THEATRE
Shakespeare in High Park
Watche two of The Bard’s most famous plays under a starry sky. Macbeth offers drama lovers a classic tale of ambition gone wrong, while The Taming of the Shrew is given a contemporary, Eurotrash-inspired spin. Admission is pay-what-you-can, although $20 is the suggested standard. Cushioned spots can be reserved in advance for $25. July 19–Sept. 1. High Park, 416-368-3110, www.canadianstage.com

FESTIVAL
Tirgan Iranian Festival (FREE!)
A celebration of a culture society steeped in history, this biennial festival includes both free and ticketed events spotlighting Iran’s art, film, literature, music and dance. Be sure to check out the Iranian food stalls and bazaar. July 18-21. Harbourfront Centre, 235 Queens Quay W., tirgan.ca

FOOD
BIG on Bloor Festival (FREE!)
It’s clearly festival season in the city, and this one shuts down the West end of Bloor for local artists and performers, a street market and a wide array of neighbourhood grub. Kids can get into a giant inflatable ball and roll around on a pool surface, likely prompting more than a little jealousy from the adults. July 20-21. Free. Bloor St. from Dufferin to Lansdowne, 416-645-0295, bigonbloor.com/festival
