All home renovation cause stress, but when it comes to renovating the heart of the home—your kitchen—extra care is required. That’s what Jillian Greenspan Tishman, an entrepreneur and mother of three, learned when she and her family embarked on a major kitchen upgrade in their Forest Hill home.

The Tasco difference

The appliances that came with the house didn’t work well with the new kitchen design. The Tishman family visited a few stores, but the staff there were pushy and too sales oriented, so their designer referred them to Tasco—and they’ve never looked back.

As a family who loves to cook and entertain, with three children ranging from 10 years to 16 months old, they wanted appliances that fit their lifestyle. The first trip to Tasco was simply for research, and sales associate Karen Carey-Hill made her family feel instantly at ease. “We made a connection with her,” says Tishman. “I really wanted someone who was knowledgeable, relatable and understood our needs as a big family.”

Associates at other stores pushed a single product line, so Tishman, who was comfortable mixing and matching brands in the kitchen, appreciated that Carey-Hill didn’t lean toward any particular brand or appliance. “Karen was just as excited if you’re going with JennAir or Thermador or KitchenAid,” says Tishman. “She wasn’t pushy and didn’t make you feel bad for whatever your limitations were.”

Simplifying the process

When renovating, endless choices can feel overwhelming. Tishman couldn’t believe how many brand and model options were available. “It’s tedious to figure out what the nuances are of each dishwasher and fridge,” she says. That’s where Tasco’s expert knowledge came in. “Karen really listened to our needs as a family of five, how we use our kitchen and the overall look.”

The hardest choice was selecting a fridge because they had always had built-in water filtration, but the door style and width they needed limited their options. Tishman also wanted to ensure the top shelf was reachable for her young kids and that there was enough space for everything when hosting big holiday gatherings. Eventually the family landed on a JennAir 42-Inch Panel-Ready Built-In French Door Refrigerator.

Carey-Hill, knowing how the appliance industry works, was able to take advantage of manufacturer promotions to provide them with the best value. “Karen understood that we had a budget and how to make our dream kitchen come to life,” says Tishman. “We really felt she had our back.”

In the end, the kitchen renovation came in under budget, and they snagged their dream appliances, including a Wolf E Series Transitional Built-In Double Oven, a Sirius Professional Series Hood Insert, a Frigidaire Gallery Built-In Beverage Centre, a Panasonic Countertop Microwave, and a Wolf Transitional Induction Cooktop that her son is excited to start cooking with.

Dedication to service

Initially, the family hadn’t planned on getting a new dishwasher, but their designer suggested they consider a panel-ready option to complement the other new appliances. Tishman popped in to Tasco unannounced to purchase a Bosch 800 Series Dishwasher, and even though Carey-Hill wasn’t available, another associate delivered the same level of service.

Tishman knows she’ll be in the market for a second washer and dryer in the future and is planning on another Tasco visit. “When it’s time, I’m calling Karen and asking, ‘What am I buying?’”
