A guide to patio hopping your way through Berczy Square

As the Financial District empties out and the late-afternoon sun stretches across the historic streets of Old Town, Berczy Square takes on a more casual energy. It’s where friends and colleagues catch up over spritzes and patios fill with spontaneous plans. Whatever your vibe for a summer evening, consider this your choose-your-own-adventure guide to patio hopping through Berczy Square, where three distinct patios sit just steps from one another.

Option A: The Joneses are calling

Located on the corner of Yonge and Wellington, The Joneses is a homey mid-century bar, lounge and restaurant, with a spacious covered patio perfect for weather-proof dining and drinks. For dinner parties and celebrations, three private spaces are also available for booking. The culinary program is shaped by Executive Chef Ryan Lister (The Dorset, The Rabbit Hole), who brings a sense of playfulness and comfort to the menu. Lunch and dinner offer fresh takes on familiar favourites — think spicy tuna sushi pizza, fried chicken and biscuits, and an all-dressed double cheeseburger. The drinks are just as thoughtful as the food. Cocktails strike a balance between refreshing and robust, from the floral, citrus-laced Lonesome Dove to the Stone & Barrel, where notes of apricot and cinnamon come together in a smooth sip. The Joneses sweetens the deal with a daily happy hour from 2–6 pm, featuring $6 mixed drinks, $7 beers, $10 wines, $12 cocktails, and bar bites made for sharing.

If The Joneses is where you needed to be, you’ve already won. If the night’s still young and you’re ready for a proper dinner, head to Option B.

Option B: Dinner at Biff’s Bistro

A St. Lawrence Market staple, Biff’s Bistro is where 1930s Paris meets London chic. Guests can then take a seat on the street-side terrace for a bustling al fresco atmosphere right at the corner of Yonge and Front. French classics take centre stage at Biff’s Bistro. From moules frites to pasta Provençal, summery fare make this a go-to spot for lingering dinners, paired with a glass of rosé or two from one of France’s celebrated wine regions.

Option C: One more at Ceci Bar

For a nightcap, head over to Ceci Bar’s covered patio. An obvious last stop (or possibly your first), Ceci Bar is a Mexican cantina that is bold and bright — both in its menu and its vibrant Central- and South American-inspired space. Named after Executive Chef Anthony Walsh’s first daughter, Cecilia, the restaurant represents an energetic and youthful take on Latin cooking. From patatas bravas with garlicky aïoli and Parmigiano-Reggiano to bright shrimp aguachile to swordfish ceviche topped with lime, pineapple, and coconut leche de tigre, Ceci Bar’s flavourful plates are made for passing around and ordering one more round.
