Osteria dei Ganzi set to open on Jarvis next month

Italian restaurant names come and go in waves. In the ’90s, everything was a “trattoria” or a “ristorante.” Now, a new Italian spot is more likely to be an “enoteca” (a wine place) or an “osteria” (a casual restaurant), the most recent of which is Osteria dei Ganzi, set to open to the public in early February on Jarvis Street.

The restaurant, which is already open for private bookings and threw a New Year’s Eve Venetian masquerade, is owned by Luca Viscardi (Toula) and Dan Gunam (Roosevelt Room, Story’s), with Roman chef Guerrino Staropoli running the kitchen. The menu will consist of house-made pasta and pizza, as well as various crostinis, and Gunam tells us the they’ll also run an aperitivo hour, where complementary bite-sized dishes will be served alongside cocktails. And the non-“osteria” bit of the name? It translates roughly to “of the cool people.”
