Hawthorne Food and Drink, the six-month-old Financial District lunch spot, has had a rocky spring. First executive chef Eric Wood left to run the kitchen at the boutique Beverley Hotel on Queen West. Then his replacement and former sous-chef Binh An Nguyen followed Wood to his new post, leaving Hawthorne in need of a chef once again. Enter Mark Cutrara, the man behind Parkdale nose-to-tail bistro Cowbell, which closed earlier this year after a six-year run. Cutrara started three weeks ago and he’s already made some changes, including a more protein-heavy menu and a $10 lunch special that’s keeping the place packed with cubicle-dwellers. He’ll make his official debut at The Stop Night Market tomorrow night, where he’ll be serving chicken satay at the Hawthorne booth. [Now]
