Khao San Road is ringing in the Thai New Year next month with its third annual Songkran festival, a beer garden coupled with a traditional water fight. The festivities take place on April 13, and will include a dance party and Thai-inspired street food stalls manned by chefs like Matt Blondin (Momofuku Daishō) and Alec Martin (Hawker Bar). The water fight is one of the more famous elements of the Thai Songkran festival, where throwing water at strangers evolved from the more traditional practice of pouring blessed water over loved ones as part of a ritual cleansing. Tickets for one of two sessions ($29–$39) are available at the restaurant, and include admission, food and drink tickets, a dry bag and “weapons” (i.e. water guns) with proceeds going to support Out of the Cold. The giant water fight is set to take place near the restaurant, so if you live in the vicinity of Adelaide and Spadina, we suggest proceeding with caution on April 13.
