Kevin Smith’s curiously lame picks for where to eat in Toronto
Kevin Smith, the sometime Degrassi guest star and the director of Clerks, tells The Star about his favourite Toronto spots. Some were joyously idiosyncratic (Silver Snail, Eliot’s Bookshop), but most of the restaurant selections made us furrow our brows in confusion. Included on the list is Wayne Gretzky’s, which Smith says is like “a mini, all-99 version of the Hockey Hall of Fame,” and defunct Richtree Market for its proximity to the Hockey Hall of Fame and its similarity to a school cafeteria. He also once “dumped hundreds of bucks on lap dances” at the Brass Rail. The saving grace is that Smith doesn’t go to these places for the food (he goes to them for hockey-related reasons); for “good eats,” he recommends Mirvish Village’s vibrant Southern Accent.
