Jonathan Poon leaves Chantecler

After almost four years, Jonathan Poon has left Chantecler. He and his business partner Jacob Wharton-Shukster put the Parkdale restaurant up for sale last fall, but Wharton-Shukster recently bought Poon’s share of the business and will continue to run it with a different (as of yet undisclosed) chef. “People were under the misconception that we put Chantecler up for sale due to bad business, but that wasn’t the case,” says Poon. Instead Poon cites “years of struggling” with their working relationship, which is what led him to open Bar Fancy last year with partner Jesse Fader. Poon says the move is “bittersweet,” but he has other plans in the works with Fader, and we can expect more from them later this year.
