Ivan Reitman’s new Toronto restaurant will indeed be serving Ghostbusters-inspired food

When it was announced that Ivan Reitman, director of Ghostbusters, Stripes and other seminal 80s and 90s comedies, would be opening a restaurant called Montecito near the TIFF Bell Lightbox, there were lots of jibes flying around about potential movie-themed menu items. On The Dish, for instance: “We’ll be disappointed if humanoid marshmallows don’t show up in some form.” That was meant as a joke, except apparently it totally isn’t. In an interview with New York blog Grub Street, Montecito co-owner Jonathan Waxman revealed that the restaurant will actually serve a dish inspired by the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man—and, specifically, his dramatic cinematic demise. “We actually haven’t perfected it yet, but it’s going to be some kind of exploding marshmallow thing. So it’s going to be fun,” he said. Waxman didn’t get into specifics, except to say that the dish won’t “hurt anybody” but will involve “a little bit of action.” Because who said dessert shouldn’t be combustible.
