This spring, Harbord Street’s DT Bistro reopened after nearly five months of renovations, unveiling a chic new dining room and a bright event space on the second floor. While best known for his pastries, chef Donald Duong offers an impressive selection of savoury options as well, ranging from a popular salad niçoise with seared ahi tuna to a Vietnamese coconut lamb curry.

We opt for the vegetarian-friendly tartine ($12), which features fleshy, balsamic-marinated heirloom tomatoes and fresh chunks of chèvre, heaped high on a thick slice of toasted house-baked sourdough. Adding texture and contrast are crisp red onion slivers, briny capers, pitted black olives and torn basil. We side the open-faced sandwich with a handful of lightly dressed mixed greens and a tangle of sweet potato fries ($3), which comes with a bright orange Romesco sauce. And the perfect way to complete an elegant lunch in the placid new room: a mug of Egyptian Chamomile tea ($3).

The cost: $24 including tax and tip

The time: a breezy 48 minutes bathed in the warm sun flooding through the room’s French windows
