As any charitable organization is well aware, stuff becomes more valuable when celebrities scrawl their names on it—even pickles, or nuts, or the kind of junk that’s usually squirreled away at the back of kitchen drawers. Case in point: Community Food Centres Canada and Bernardin (a Canadian company that makes home-canning supplies) have teamed up for a fundraising initiative called Jars from the Stars. They’ve commissioned 45 local chefs, TV personalities and politicians to throw some objects into autographed Mason jars, which are currently being auctioned off over eBay. The contents of the jars include all kinds of stuff: a beaded necklace from Marilyn Denis, tour paraphernalia from Barenaked Ladies bassist Jim Creeggan and various non-perishables (pickled asparagus from Jaime Kennedy, for instance, and a bunch of pistachios from Jian Ghomeshi). Bidding began earlier this week and runs until June 26.
